Field Day one again offered a great time for students and staff and parent volunteers. Games throughout the morning were followed by a water balloon toss and tug of war. A big thank you to Mrs. McVerry and Mrs. Patterson who organized the whole day.

Author/Illustrator Brian Pinkney shared his drawings, books, and drumming with students at LMES on May 10, 2010.  And the 4th Grade Art Enrichment students shared their scratch-art drawings with him!

LMES Family Fun Night for over 920 people to watch the staff vs. Harlem Wizards basketball game was a fantastic night that was fun for all!  The event raised money to purchase two SMARTboards for our school.

Mrs. White's Grade 3 students used their knowledge of simple machines and force and motion to create their leprechaun traps.  Maybe they will catch one next time!

Grade 5 Roaring Brook field trip 2010.  Neither cold nor snow could stop these 5th graders from having a blast!

Jump Rope for Heart annual fundraiser involved 5th grade students jumping rope to raise over $7,000 for the American Heart Association.  The students and staff had a great time for a worthy cause.

Tacky the Penguin was the guest of honor at PJ Storyhour on January 20th.  Students came to school in their PJ's and were treated to stories read by Mr. Moretti and many parent volunteers.  The evening was coordinated by Mrs. Groman, Mrs. Bernardi and Mrs. Doyle.

Our preschool and kindergarten children had a wonderful time on Halloween including a parade throughout the entire school.

Author and seriously silly songwriter  Alan Katz visited LMES on October 27th to share his books and silly-dilly songs.

Birthday Lunches with the Principal!  Once a month, students celebrating a birthday will receive a special invitation to have lunch with Mr. Moretti.  Tables are decorated with a birthday centerpiece and balloons for a special treat.  The students have great fun being the guests of honor during their lunchtime and enjoy their quality time with Mr. Moretti.

Author and photographer Stephen Swinburne visited LMES on April 21st to share his books and stories of animals and nature.

Engineering Week for Grades 2 and 3 - students problem solved how to get a balloon to travel on a string by using cooperative work skills.  Mr. Ziemke from IBM was the facilitator and classroom helper.

Fifth graders spent the day at the Audubon society's Bent of the River nature center in Southbury to study trees, insects, and animals.

The LMES Printing Press gives our children an opportunity to become real authors by publishing their own books. Coordinated by Mrs. Groman and Mrs. Richardson and run by parent volunteers, hundreds of books will be produced each year.
